Why do men cheat on their spouses and girlfriends?

One of the most popular questions in the world today from the ladies is why do men cheat? Many persons believe there is no such thing as a faithful man and that it is in their instinct to be promiscuous. It doesn’t matter if you have a good woman at home because this isn’t enough to keep him from fooling around on you. Men have been causing a stir in the media with persons such as Tiger Woods, Eliot Spitzer and other celebrities. These guys have everything power, beautiful wives, family and fortune but still would be unfaithful with not just one but multiple persons.

This article delves into the whole idea of men being faithful in a relationship. It also deals with how he could be sidetracked from the road of monogamy and commitment. When trying to understand the question of why do men cheat?  The first thing we must acknowledge is, men and women are different both psychologically and physically. Therefore if you are a female do not expect that the things which make you happy will make him happy. Psychologically males tend to have a winning attitude. They like to know they can succeed in everything this include relationships, sports, sex and the list go on. Success is a sign of strength and power while failure in their minds is a weakness. In society men are groomed from young to be strong and winners. If they cannot feel like winners at work and at home, it frustrates them greatly.

Gary Neuman who is a well recognised author and therapist talks about males and their winning attitude in his book “The Truth About Cheating”. In understanding the reasons a man would cheat on you he states you must understand this winning attitude. In his research he interviewed several couples consisting of both faithful and unfaithful men. In his survey he discovered that approximately 1 in 2.7 males will fool around in a relationship. He also discovered that 88% of males that cheated said the other person was not better looking or in better shape than their wives or girlfriend. So why would someone cheat if what the outside person is no better than their partner home. It is quite simple these other persons make them feel respected, admired and alive basically feeding their winning spirit in one form or another. They satisfy that side that their partner was not fulfilling and it is not necessarily about sex. Sex to males is another sign of winning or conquering which is a thrill to them.

The other side to a male is his biological side. The reason why men cheat biologically is because men crave sexual variety. This was well researched by Professor David Buss, professor of psychology at the University of Texas and author of The Evolution of Desire: Strategies of Human mating. He also goes on to explain that women are more attracted to males with money, power and status. If you look at this scenario you can easily understand why powerful and popular men are so vulnerable. They already have a craving for sexual variety and you have numerous ladies after them. These men are not the only men vulnerable but just make them more prone.
